My night started out with what has become one of Penny’s favourite games, Import / Export. A fantastic game by Jordan Drapper, Import / Export has the players taking turns as the Captain, choosing the action for the turn, while all other players can either follow the captain or pass. A simple card game with endless combo possibilities with 167 unique cards, each with a player ability that can stack. A game of simultaneous play, it is one that adding more players, up to 6, doesn’t add more time. Increasing the player count can actually shorten the game as one of the end game conditions is running out the deck. This was the case for this game.
When Ryan arrived we had just stared the teach, so a quick reset and he was up to speed in no time. Adding our 5 player to a base game only, (one day we will play the expansions Penny) and we were off.
The multi-use cards of Import / Export are an excellent example of streamlined complexity. The left of the card shows the action you can play the card for, the top of the card shows the contract it could be played as, the right of the card has the contact level and the goods type, used for point scoring. All of this is also then coloured as a shipping container suit. Players then have 2 Ships to commit to contracts and then load containers onto. A contract my require up to 6 containers to be loaded onto your ship before it can set sail. Once a ship is at sea the player no longer has control of it and therefore want’s to empty it as soon as possible to get it back to port. This can be done through Importing containers, a blind bidding on the ship to gain 2 of the containers for Points or improved actions, or PIRACY, taking containers at sea and loading them onto your ship at port to help complete another contract.
Fulfilling Contracts, Importing containers, Loading containers and a touch of high sea Piracy, who could ask for more! As a simultaneous play game, everyone is involved right from the start, there is almost no downtime which is great for new players as you are always engaged. Tonight was Ryan’s first night attending and this was a fantastic was to kick it off. After several rounds and lots of stolen opportunities, we were at the end. Our deck had run out and so had our time as captains. With pretty well-balanced scores, ranging from 22 – 32 with Josh claiming victory at 42 points. Congratulations.
Our next event is on the 18th of October, jump on to Aftergame to check out what has been planned so far or add a game of your own to organise your players NOW!
Can’t wait to see you all at the table again soon.
