Since the last event I have had SETI on my mind. Like a song I just couldn’t shake. So when I asked Mel if we could play again and she agreed it just made it even worse. I thought about the strategies, the options, how to better use the solar system mechanic. This game lived rent free in my mind for 2 weeks!

And then we got to play!

Mel and I shared the table this time with 2 new players. Both played very different games and Mel and I fought. For the 3.5 hours of the game, we both took great delight in stealing what the other wanted. A scan here, and tech there. It was fantastic but brutal. The evil red overlord aliens arrived again and this time Mel went for it! Building the Danger turn after turn. The other two players had very different strategies, one wanted to explore the solar system, trying to get out every probe they could and almost have all of them out by the end of the game. The other had a very balanced and broad approach, scoring points throughout the game in a wide variety ways. A few points from missions here, a landing there.

The first new player lagged in the end by not having a variety of scoring methods but had a great time probing the solar system. The second came in an extremely close 3rd with only one point separating 2nd and 3rd place. The Final scoring was down to Danger points. It was here that Mel’s plans to claim the victory failed. With the loss of 10% of her score, unable to score the high danger cards she had committed to, Mel slipped into 2nd place.

This was such a fantastic game, not just the game SETI but the table was extremely fun. With the other 2 players doing well and Mel and I doing everything we could so that the other others plan would vanish. Thanks again Mel for brining SETI.
While this battle was happening, on the next table 2 others were playing a 2-player game of SETI. A learning game with the new player from that table sitting in on Mel’s teach. With the 2 tables going 1 corner of CBG was dedicated to the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence. They also had a fantastic time and finished their game just before ours. Even with different aliens and strategies, their game had a similar line of stories and laughs. Further proof of the wonder of SETI.

Well with 2 plays down, I do think that SETI may knock Brass: Birmingham of my No. 1 spot. This game is so involved and with only just enough downtime to gather your thoughts and plan your next move.
