Event #147 Wrap Up

Before I get into tonight’s games, I just want to take a moment to talk about something that means a lot to me: community, friendship, and looking out for one another.
One of the things I love most about this club of ours is seeing just how much those things thrive here. We come together because we love board games, but I think what we’ve created is something that goes far beyond simply sitting around a table and playing games.
Some of you may have noticed the shirt I was wearing tonight. On the front it said:
“You are enough.”
And on the back:
“Dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it. Love, the person in front of you.”
I genuinely believe that every single one of us has value and something special to offer this world. Sometimes, though, life gets difficult and it can be incredibly easy to lose sight of that. We can become so caught up in our own struggles that we forget that the people around us may be carrying struggles of their own.

Tonight, Lillian came up to me and said that she really liked my shirt. It seems like such a small thing, but it opened the door to a conversation. We ended up talking about some of the struggles I’ve been going through, and about how, in one way or another, everyone has their own battles that we may know nothing about.
It reminded me just how important it is to reach out to people and let them know that they matter. Sometimes, a simple conversation, a kind word, a laugh across a game table, or just someone taking the time to ask how you’re doing can mean far more than they probably realise.
We all come together at CBG to play games, have a laugh, learn new games, and enjoy each other’s company. But tonight reminded me that it means so much more than that.
So, to everyone who played a game with me tonight, shared a laugh around the table, or simply spent some time with me — thank you.

And to those who reached out to me tonight, whether you knew how much it meant or not: you know who you are. I appreciate you more than I can probably put into words. Look after each other, people. Sometimes all it takes is a little kindness to make someone’s day, or even remind them that they’re not alone.
