Spoiler Free Fenris Report
For first time readers or those unfamiliar with Scythe: Rise of Fenris, this game is a story over the top of an already great game, Scythe. As the story progresses the game changes, end game conditions may be different, player strategies or tactics will change and even rules may be altered depending on how the story plays out. As such, it is getting harder as the game continues to keep this blog spoiler free! So much has changed. I have made sure that all photos of the game remain free of any plot points or new game mechanics but let’s just say if you like Scythe, Rise of Fenris is Scythe turned up to 11.
Here we go.
Haydn started the night of with a fast victory. Leaving us all wanting 1 or 2 more turns to get our engines pumping. Speeding through with a double hit of a combat star and an objective star in the one turn left Mel with no stars on the board at all! Not a great start to the evening. With that game over so quick we decided to reset and go again with the next scenario.
The next scenario was a strange one. It started out like the game was halfway, we all had extra workers, a couple of buildings, it was a great boost. I had finally worked out how to use the Wind Gambit Airship and my player ability to move around the board a little more and was off to the races.
The scenario had us on the hunt. The locations to check were the explore tokens. The game would end either buy 6 stars as per normal or by collecting 5 explore tokens. The latter was my goal. I knew I couldn’t beat Haydn with stars or slowing him down, but maybe I could get the tokens before he got his engine rolling! It took a few fast moves and a Factory card to get it done. The Final Explore token allowed me to also helped me trigger another star, so I not only ended the game but claimed victory! Sorry Haydn 😀
Our next and final game has been postponed due to holidays and other game commitments but come September we will find out who is the Grand Winner of the Rise of Fenris!
